About Me

Hi there. This page is a little bit about me, my background and why I started this company.

My name is Andrew, I was born September 26, 1989 in Michigan. I got to grow up in the last generation before the epidemic of mobile devices and social media. That meant biking around the city with friends during the dog days of summer, going to the lake for water sports and fishing, or heading "Up North" (Michigan slang for vacation) to visit my grandma. We were always outside, we were always pushing limits.

I was a serious trouble-maker with an entrepreneurial spirit, so the first time I consumed cannabis at 16, a light bulb went on above my head. For nearly 16 years I was involved in the cannabis industry starting well before legalization. Run-ins with LEO were inevitable being so young and stupid. I became a victim of the corrupt criminal justice system.

The judge told me directly I couldn't go away to college until I completed probation. I never went to college. I actually look back at it as a blessing, but at the time I was distraught. By this time I had already experimented with growing mushrooms in the closet and enjoyed watching the process.

It was 2021, during the tail end of the pandemic. I was working in carpentry, doing some welding and still growing cannabis. I had been struggling with substance abuse, nothing out of control but it was getting there. A friend asked me to extract DMT for him because he knew of my interest in chemistry and had seen my skill on display with THC extractions. When I brought him pure white crystals of >98% pure DMT, he was very pleased.

We both went on a month long, deep exploration of our psyches. We were regularly tripping for 6+ hours, maintaining the effects by freebasing it in a e-cig.

That experience changed my life. Hard drug use had already stopped, but now any urge was gone and has never come back. I realized I really wanted a family, I now have 2 young boys and we are planning on a third in the next year or two.

That leads me to MushroomSpawnStore. It was a wild idea, help people grow mushrooms by providing them with the highest quality grow bags. Most people I told it to thought it was silly, and low probability. They may have been right, but that wasn't going to stop me. With a little bit of help from my Dad, (Thanks Dad) I was able to buy some equipment and materials. It still took a lot of work because I couldn't afford to hire professional web designers or marketing consultants. I had ZERO experience in e-commerce or building websites.

What I did have was a lot of determination and motivation spurred by my first son on the way. Thankfully the hard work, risk and determination payed off almost immediately. And good thing too, I had been fired from my job and had a son on the way. It was life changing when orders started coming in. I was in the hospital with my partner due to some complications involving the pregnancy (everything ended up fine) and the first order came in. I was witnessing what felt like two miracles at once.

My life hasn't been the same since and I couldn't be more grateful for how things turned out. It still requires a lot of work and I'm certainly not going to become a billionaire doing this, but it pays the bills, makes me happy, and I feel a deep sense of fulfillment being able to help people potentially experience the same kind of life changing moment I had on DMT but with mushrooms instead.

Now a few years down the line, We continue to grow. We have helped thousands of people across the country grow their own mushrooms at home. We take pride in our accomplishments but remain humble in the face of the Great Creator.
